'Twilight' blindsided by Bullock

Sandra Bullock is back.

Her new film, “The Blind Side,” scored the top spot at the box office this weekend with $20.4 million in tickets sold, sacking the previous two weeks' leader, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Despite the tumble from the top spot, the vampire romance still collected $15.7 million.

Lionsgate's war-on-terror drama “Brothers” debuted at No. 3, with $9.7 million, averaging $4,646 in 2,088 theaters.

The remake of a 2004 Danish film stars Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal.

“Disney's A Christmas Carol” held onto its spot in the top five with $7.5 million in sales, and “Old Dogs” came in fifth, pulling down $6.9 million.

The weekend's nationwide debuts were overshadowed by a huge premiere in limited release for the new George Clooney comedy “Up in the Air,” which took in nearly $1.2 million at just 15 theaters for an eye-popping average of $79,000 per screen.

  In a rare comeback for a movie that’s been out for three weeks, Warner Brothers’ “Blind Side” (with Quinton Aaron, right) finally took possession of No. 1 at the box office, with $20.4 million in ticket sales over the weekend, according to box-office tracking services, bringing its total to $129 million. Summit’s “Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which had been first three weeks in a row, dropped to No. 2 with $15.7 million, for a domestic total of $256 million to date. The Lionsgate feature “Brothers,” starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman, earned $9.7 million in its first week out. “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” wound up in fourth place, with $7.5 million and a total of $115 million after five weeks of release. And “Old Dogs,” also from Disney, finished in the fifth spot, with $6.9 million, for a total of $34 million.
